Quick question. In a capacitor doubler circuit. As in the link..

Do you calculate total capacitance in series or parallel?

 

Look at the path the load current takes. It flows thru both capacitors. Thus the source capacitance is the series (lower) combination.

 

Thank you. I was thinking series however if you draw out the circuit a bit differently (aside from polarity) they appear parallel. It was throwing me off a bit.

I think it's important to try to figure out exactly what's going on in each half-cycle when there is load current. Drawing pictures helps.
