Can anyone suggest a link or perhaps a book that lists a comparison between various types on caps and there specific (or even general) uses. For example, ceramic disc - power filtering/bypass/etc. there are so many types out there (poly, mylar, ceramic, all the way to old paper caps. If a designer was designing an analog (sinewave) oscillator and the goal was a single freq (say 3 KHz) that was as clean and stable as possible, would the freq determining caps be made of poly? what if it was an RF oscillator?
Although I have done some simple design (30 years ago) I am not a degreed EE and it just occurred to me that I really didn't know how to select caps! I generally used (remember, 30 years ago) that were made of Mylar (because we had lots of them) for oscillators, pll and detectors. Was this the besy choice?

I don't know why I didn't think of Wiki. There is a lot of good stuff there (if you double check it). A couple charts in that Wiki article are just what I was looking for. Thanx Dick!
