We have a project that requires us to light up a candle using electronics. My plan is to short a 3.7 V 2200mAh battery and a wire looped into the candle wick. how should I go with it ensuring my safety and others. How can I add a switch without the switch breaking due to heat?

That is not a good idea. You will probably exceed the maximum burst rating for the Li-Po and could cause an explosion and fire. Check the data sheet for the battery you are using. There is a maximum safe current you can draw that will not damage the battery. What ever you decide to use as a heating element, it must draw less current than that.

You need to direct the explosion and fire on to the candle wick. Then you've done it!

Put a match on a servo, when the match rotates it contacts a piece of sand paper.
Then the lit match lights the candle.

connect a piece of insulated 16 AWG copper wire to each pole of the battery. Connect your heating coil between the ends of the wires, similar to how a solder gun is made.

A light bulb with the glass will be a one time quick action candle whick lighter. But a bulb/heating element and battery doesn't strike me as "electronics". Just electrical

I'm thinking you're going to have to come up with a high voltage arc to light the whick. Maybe something simple like a relay wired to buzz and a voltage multiplayer until it's high enough to create a small spark.

Or a full fledged oscillator with a step up or flyback transformer not too unlike a stun gun

It might be helpful to know if the requirement is it has to be "electronic" or just electrical
