There are two sides to any story. The CDC collected and filtered gun violence data to support the anti gun position. They lied and the American people paid for it. As a result, congress cut the CDC's budget by the amount they sent to collect and generate biased gun violence data.

The NRA stopped the recording ......of biased data that supported the anti gun agenda.
And as a NRA member I've decided you can't always count on their side of the story being true any more. Sadly.

If concealed carry is such a good idea, why aren't the people on a military base, the ones that have more training with firearms than the average CC citizen, allowed to keep their guns with them at all times?

If they are deployed, they are required to keep their firearms with them at all times.

In Tucson you will often see a person in a suit and tie and a side arm. Always an impressive sight.

Because they are usually trained with weapons and tactics for combat not law enforcement for base or home security. I was in the Security alert team on my ship (I was a pretty good shot being a hillbilly from Texas and I had clearance for 'Special Weapons') and was qualified to carry and use the .45, M-14 rifle and combat shotgun while deployed. Most of us also had our personal weapons but they were kept in the gun-locker until stateside. There were also 2000 marines on the ship with M-16's but only we were trained and cleared for close shipboard , pier security or how to handle small boats, etc ... Anyone can be a trigger-puller but it takes more than just basic firearms training to understand tactics and countermeasures on attackers out of a direct military context.

As for the graph, if it is all about guns, the how do YOU explain why Russia is so high when the number of firearms in Russia is estimated to be less than 7 million legally owned and about 12 million illegally owned?
Booze:D

And if gun laws are so effective at preventing mass shootings, why have most of the deadliest mass shootings taken place in countries with strict gun laws? In the U.S., why are the highest homicide rates in the counties with the among the strictest gun control laws and the lowest homicide rates in counties with among the most lenient?
I think if you look at mass shootings most are political, religious or mental. Maybe a little different (and fewer) than the daily problem.

It looks like were are a pretty safe place to live when compared to the last three "developed' countries on your list.

Another view of the US & guns vs the world in crime.

Do I detect a few ideas for correlation in this chart?

IMO gun control is inherently racist. Who do you think will be given the 'good seal' of approval and who will be getting the profiling, racist stop and frisk and/or some other evil procedure we can't even think of yet?

Yes indeed. But it is driven there by the data. What is missing is the answer to the underlying problems

Who knows which one is correct.
Lots of facts in your link. Your pro-gun control former opinion editor failed to tell us about the criminal homicides that involved the legal owner of the gun? Was that percentage so small it wasn't worth mentioning? I would not doubt in 75 percent of the criminal cases the shooter knew the victim.

I like the fact that in 56 percent of the justified shootings, strangers came to the aid of an unarmed potential victim.

It's simple, if you don't want to own a gun, there is nothing wrong with that. Your freedoms stop where they interfere with my freedoms and vice-versa. Due process still prevails.

Carrying concealed is only for the people who feel that it is for them. There is a responsibility that you must shoulder when you carry. Even though you have the permits, you never carry when you are "not right"; which means angry, sad, in love, out of sorts, whatever. If you are not clear and centered, you do not carry. When you do carry, there are things you can do, and things you can not do. When you put on a gun, it is serious matter, and is only for those that can bare, and want, the responsibility.

I have no doubt this is true

Me too.

You misunderstand my feelings. I have nothing against guns. I have guns. What bothers me is people thinking they are a lot safer because they have a house full of them.
It also troubles me a little that we are not addressing the real reasons we have so many homicides.
Your freedoms stop where they interfere with my freedoms and vice-versa. Due process still prevails.
I'm sure you have found your freedoms are limited by government. It is a democracy. We will probably see that on Monday.

My grandparents had a house full of guns and it's a fact we were lot safer because of them. They never went anywhere without a gun in the car or purse. Things were much more polite in town and on some lonely road when everyone knew everyone else was armed.

@joeyd999, what other inconveniences in our society are you willing to help "take care of" by shelling-out for a rope?

Anyone who willingly takes an innocent life has forfeited his own.

I am in Orlando right now. A name comes immediately to mind of someone I'd happily see hang had his life not already been taken.

Good riddance.
