Can a digital dimmer be used in combo with regular switches?

I have some flood lights that can be turned on/off from four locations.
When I put in a single digital dimmer, everything appears to work except a certain combination of regular switches being in their on-off position results in a "dead spot" so the light can't be turned on.

Are corresponding "slave" dimmers required when using a single digital dimmer or can something be done so that a single digital dimmer can coexist with three regular on/off switches?

Multi-way lighting circuits require that current pass through “travelers” from the switches. In some configurations, the dimmer will not be in circuit. There are dimmers that have remote control components for multi-way use. I have one installed in a two-way configuration but I am not sure it can do more than that.

I’d say the only way you are going to make this reliable is to use a matched set of controls and dimmer. Someone else might know something I don’t, however.

Wiring screenshots coming as soon as I can get a shot, it is a great room with six set of lights that were controlled by simple ON/OFF switches located at five locations around the great room, each switch just controlled ON/OFF to all six sets of ceiling lights.
Simply installing one digital dimmer at one location and leaving all other switches in place introduces a working dimmer at that one location with all other locations still controlling the ON/OFF function to all.

Except in certain scenarios when some of the five switches are in certain ON/OFF positions - this specific scenario creates a dead spot that disables controls until flipped the other way.
