Now I am really wondering about the goal of sound pressure versus reasonably low distortion.
Certainly RAP blasted thru ruined speakers is less offensive at 30% distortion due to the ripped cones than it would be on an excellent system with maybe 0.025% TOTAL DISTORTION. And a paging system with small, cheap,trumpet speakers and a frequency response down 20 DB at 300Hz and 2800Hz and 10% harmonic distortion will not sound too terribly rotten until somebody tries to play music thru it.
And really, those folks attempting to produce 100dB from a battery powered system that I am not able to escape from should have an amplifier that MAXIMISES battery consumption. Class A power amplifiers .

There are many different types of "Distortion".
The level of Distortion, ( usually represented in % ),
that is tolerable to the average person,
depends on the type of Distortion being considered.

~20% Clipping from a cheap, under-powered, poorly designed Transistor-Amplifier
sounds like absolute Dog-Poop, regardless of the application,
but people will readily accept ~20% Transient-Distortion from
a supposedly ""well-designed"" Ported-Speaker-Cabinet and call it "excellent".

~20% Distortion from a Class-A Tube-Amp is glorified as almost "God-like" by some AudioPhools.

The lowest Distortion available is from
Transistor-Amps driving properly-designed Horn-Loaded-Speakers, in a properly deadened room,
but there are plenty of poorly designed, ( or poorly utilized ),
Horn-Speakers that sound really bad at only ~2% THD.

Two types of Distortion that seldom get considered are
the "Signal-to-Noise-Ratio",
and the source of the "noise" in the SNR,
which is normally the Room that contains the Speakers.
You can take a pair of World-renowned, premium "Studio-Monitors"
and put them in your Bathroom, and they will sound like pure garbage.

Most people are completely clueless when it comes to
identifying the actual source of the ""objectionable"" distortion(s) in a particular sound-system,
and around a quarter of those people are actually born "tone-deaf",
and couldn't tell the difference if You paid them,
and judge Sound-Quality by how much You apparently paid for the System.
And further, most supposed "Sound-System-Engineers" have definite pre-conceived notions
about how to go about designing the ideal Sound-System,
and, what they think is guaranteed to ruin it, and render it "unworthy" of consideration,
this is normally based on cost, "prestige", "visual-appeal", "bogus-Specifications" and
other nonsensical blather, not what actually "Sounds-Good", and communicates well,
and results in an actual pleasurable experience for the most number of people.

In the application being discussed in this Thread,
the various distortion(s) being "worried" about are not of a particularly irritating character,
( even though they are not technically-insignificant, )
and can therefore be completely disregarded.
