The idea is to continually reset the watchdog timer so that it never expires. In case it does expire the processor will be RESET. The resetting of the watchdog timer should take place in the background (non-interrupt level code) on a periodic basis. Some watchdog timers allow you to choose the timeout interval -- others do not.
