Hello Sir,

Please tell me if my programmer(like in picture attached) can write uC type AT89S8253.
I try but the ProgISP v.1.72 replay with message :
"Chip Enable Program Error".
With the same hardware, software and connections, I can write corectly AT89S52 microcontroller.
The programmer need a new firmware?

I have not yet worked with Atmel, but out of curiosity I looked through the datasheets. It appears that both micros use the same programming instructions and procedures.

It appears that the two main causes of the error message are wrong connections or the fuses were not programmed with the right values.

 

I tried PROGISP for days without success!

I think the firmware is not capable of programming the AT89S8253.
I just purchased one of these:

It is inexpensive enough and I did not want to waste any more time fiddling with ProgISP.
