Kind friends

Re: my "Why your username" thread

I regard moderation's unbidden, senseless 'attack' upon friendly, constructive conservation unacceptable -- Especially as said conversation was in OT and I (as TS/OP) had no say in the matter...

Please be advised that I have respectfully contacted the Mod responsible and received neither an explanation nor so much as the courtesy of a reply...

This, contrasted with the 'new' tolerance -I daresay encouragement- of heated debate on the 'political threads' is the proverbial 'last straw'...

This is no longer the AAC I joined:(

Sincere thanks to my many friends here for two years engaging and edifying conversation

Best regards
HP

I replied to your PM within the hour with the reasoning, rationale and a quote from TOS/UA regarding the role of moderators for good measure, explaining my unbidden, senseless 'attack' on your post. I offered to restore it with caveats.

I am curious as to why you would go off on the boards before at least seeing what I had to say about it.

But, you are also, of course, able to invite the rest of the staff plus @bertus and @jrap himself to the PM to work towards a satisfactory resolution to this issue.

On the other hand, @johnintexas had plenty of time to discuss with the OP before making a significant change to the thread where everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun.

I don't mean to be short and I am not pulling rank but that is simply not the way it works. We don't have the resources to weigh each and every post. Hopefully, the reasoning is at least discernible if not obvious.

There are plenty of avenues of recourse if one feels mistreated. Reports and PMs are taken seriously and always considered in whatever final action is done. If one feels mistreated, a PM to the offending mod, another mod, is a good way to resolve things. Blowing up on the boards before the staff can reply is counter-productive .

At least, that's the way I see it.

Then you might consider changing your broken process. The long-time, well-known members do not start a lot of threads. If there is one, it is usually popular.

Why not trust those OPs can manage their own threads and assume they will contact the mods when they need help.

The mods WERE contacted for help via report. I was contacted via PM and responded to both. As I pointed out, there is recourse if one feels mistreated or has a better suggestion.

Still waiting for a reply from @Hypatia's Protege

She left the building. Now it is time to move forward. What lessons have you learned and what changes do you plan?

Why do you have a hair-trigger to break the egg when @djsfantasi complains but you need the OP to wait for @jrap to get back to her before you will put Humpty Dumpty together again? Do you see the stupidity?

No. I guess I don't. Are you sure you have the whole story here?

FWIW, I was not seeking jrap's help for anything. Just reminding HP that she had lots of places to go.

That is my point, instead of trusting the OP's judgment that something needed to be done, you trusted a one-time participant in the thread (@djsfantasi ). Why is his request to stop certain conversations than trust HP's request to put it back the way it was (or not take it apart in the first place).

Because that's the role of a moderator.
This stuff was removed from the thread:

I kind of thought - by my own self even!- that the thread was better having these relocated. As for HP's post in question, it too seemed to me that it did not fit the the username topic so I deleted it - with reason and my name noted - along with a few others. I also offered to restore it in the PM from HP. That's the way it is supposed to happen. Getting all riled up over a single deleted post is something I don't understand but, as I indicated, would be happy to revisit and in fact am conversing with HP about it at this very moment.

@Hypatia's Protege would prefer to express her ideas without the need to debate them. I make this impossible. This is the source of her angst.

Joey please take a few deep breaths! You have nothing to do with this whatever:rolleyes::cool: -- My advice (FWIW) is that you take care lest people figure out you're a nice guy playing the curmudgeon for $#!%$ and giggles - Oh! Yes! I know the 'signs';)

I'm sorry that it seemed that way!:( -- It seems, based upon the stated time frame, that the 'alert' feature was/is 'lagging' -- Believe me! I (and my BP:eek:) would have benefited greatly via timely viewing of your reply:oops:

Sincerely
