I made a comment about Rifaa's safety, which I feel is true. He agreed, and I have moderated his thread at his request. There is a difference between civil unrest and revolution, I think he showed that quite well.

I did not totally erase the pictures because they may document something that will be historically important later, but for now they are gone.

You will note I have not used certain keywords in this explanation. If you respond I will request you do not either.

I am not seeing the thread at all. Is this what you meant by moderated taking it offline? If it helps to keep Rifaa safe I am all for it.

Rifaa,

Keep your head down buddy, stay safe. Post a message from time to time. No details needed just that you and your family are OK.

I think the words over reaction come to mind. Its not like he's insighting a revolution here on AAC. Also this isn't quite like the Arab Spring. Not to make light of the situation but it doesn't seem quite that bad. When he looses Playstation Network, and Angry Birds I'll start to worry and start a rescue Rifaa fund.

If this was the USA I would agree. There are many places in the world where they take you out and put a bullet in the back of your head just because. Think about it.

I remember when the practice was fairly commonplace all over the world, USSR and China included. I think the term I would use is complacency. Remember, it is not your life that is at risk, so your attitude isn't reasonable in this case.

He is also not single, things get a lot more complicated when you have a family.

Bill,
I have no dog in this hunt but support any action you take. I have never seen you or any mod act arbritrarily toward any poster on this site. Your reputation for tolerance and fair decisions preceeds you so if you felt it was needed then it probably was and you did the right thing. Sorry Rifaa, I dont know what the rub is but Bill is always more than fair in every circumstance so far.

No need to be sorry, it was at Rifaa's request. He had some outstanding pictures posted from a regime that may not want news to leave that little corner of the world. The internet has made it increasingly difficult for would be rulers to control spin and news, but the people getting it out have and always are at risk, sad to say.

Absolutely. And, even if the probability is low of actually being tracked down, given that his family might also be at risk is reason enough to be extra cautious. I know I would be (and am) concerned.
I honestly think people in the US have no clue how well they've got it.

They can scream, protest, push police, etc. and at worse pay a small fine. Same for Europe and other "western" countries.

Other places, life is cheap, and when an American is there and gets killed, there is moral outrage here, but it is status quo there.

There are many places in this world I wouldn't go without a heavily loaded Marine escort, many in Africa, and some in what people think are "modern" countries.

In America the government has to very very slowly nibble at our human rights, else suffer the consequences of the second amendment;)

I often wonder what the rest of the world would be like if the had a similar right .

Thank you all.

For now My family is safe.

I have a younger brother is Police and the Husband of Sister is in MNDF (Military).

So to say , there may be a clash but things are pretty cool for now.
But I am concerned about my little brother who's working in Police. It seems there are attacks occurring towards the Police individuals. Since the MDP ( Fallen Party) has bad ass people.

If he is seen alone on duty, I am concerned.

But to be fair you don't think of it being that bad when he has his location listed as Paradise... People care about the Maldives, if whats happening in syria was happening in the maldives NATO or the UN would be onshore in 24 hours. We care about countries with crystal blue water and islands.

U know if we are to have true order and peace in the capital, we need someone from the outside who is neutral. Some one with no influence on the parties. A true people's person.

Other wise there is no hope.

Now they are announcing that owe money to the world 3 times than before. I dunno those accounts and economics words that is used to describe these things, but what I know is that WTF ?
It cannot be true...the new PP (puppet president) is trying brainwash us. Feeding us false info thru media.

It seems they don't even have enough money to pay the salary to the social workers this month. Then if so, how the hell are we going to survive. What do they think they are saying. Did they think we will really believe them bogus stories.

U know this year they started giving free medical to all Maldivian. Each and every one has 100,000 MVR credit. We never thought this was possible. We actually go and get medical free of charge.

But now the new PP is saying they might have to stop that.

So what is to believe.
We need some task force to do Justice to the people. The Rulers are gobbling all the money in to the house and resorts. We cannot convict any of them. They are dropping the charges of the criminal judges. When then Head Judge is a puppet, who can help us. The cops or the MP.

Shows how stupid this all is. One family, black and white pawns on a chessboard, which maybe forced to fight each other.

Who is really neutral???
