As a beginner my EE vocabulary is pretty small. (Be Easy on me) I've been messing with electronics and whole life and I've repaired several flat screen TV power boards, usually it's just bad capacitors this one in particular I have replaced all the capacitors and I can't figure out what component is causing the whole board to short out and is making a ticking sound when plugged in... I thought maybe the sounds was coming from a TVS diode, so. I pulled it out and tried testing it with this archaic old fluke 8,000a multimeter . As far as I can tell it seems to be open both ways and I'm not sure if that is how it's supposed to be or not plus it has no values on it cuz it's just pure black so I wouldn't even know what to replace it with if that is the problem does anybody have any idea of what could be causing this and any advice or tips or suggestions. I would greatly appreciate any feedback I get thank you

Welcome to AAC!

TVS diodes exhibit open circuit in both directions. They only short when the high voltage spikes exceed the max operating voltage. Hence, as a over-voltage protection device, that is how they are supposed to work. It is complementary to a fuse which is a short circuit which opens when the current rating is exceeded.

A clicking sound usually means that the power supply is being overloaded and it goes into shutdown mode. Then it repeatedly tries to restart.

To find the problem you have to start removing loads from the power supply.

I suggest that the first load to disconnect is the backlight power supply board, or if that is the one you are working on, then disconnect the backlights.

This open doide didn’t solve the problem with you?, the power supply still making sound clicking?
Can you take a photo for us?
Can you tell the brand of the Tv?, so we may find service manual to help?
