I must be getting old. It's nearly impossible to find baling wire and (good) clothes pins now. My niece gave me some "modern" clothes pins, and the springs were so weak you couldn't hold a wet pair of jeans up with 4 of them.

So, don't plan on repairing your birthday cake, just enjoy eating it!
