Hello. I bought at auction a 480 volt, 3 phase shop heater and I am trying to figure out if i can use it in my garage where I have a 220 dryer outlet. I found under the access panel a wiring diagram with instructions for changing from 3 phase to 1 phase. Does that simply
double the voltage? It seems easy enough, but what is field wiring that attached to L1 and L2? Attached is my info. Thanks 4 the help!

If you modified the fan motor and contactor coil to run from 220V and connected the heating coils to the 220V single-phase, the output heat would be reduced to about 21% of its output at 480V or 3.15kW.

You could also buy an old, used 220V clothes dryer and run the vent outlet into the room for heat.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just pass on my bargain to someone else. Thanks for the old dryer suggestion. That's probably all I really need.
