There seems to have been a misunderstanding somewhere, but it may not not so important now to work out exactly how it arose.I completely understand the fact that I should have a resistor on each string of LEDs. That makes perfect sense for reasons of failure and fluctuation.
What I want to know is why is it that when I suggested in my second post to place a 135Ω resistor (I understand the reasons to round up to 150Ω) on each string that I was corrected saying that I should divide by 3

I guess it is what it is. I will use a 150Ω resistor per string of lights. I just don't know why I was wrong when I suggested the same (aside from the rounding up)
Bill Marsden may want to comment on this for himself, but my guess would be that he was actually commenting on your first post, but did not complete his reply until after you had posted for the second time.
This points up a a problem that you need to get used to on forums like this: it is quite easy for replies to get out of sequence, particularly when somebody is taking the time to set out an explanation at some length.
45 ohms is what you would (conditional tense) use if you wanted to use a single resistor to feed three strings, which as everybody has explained would not be such a good idea.
