3 Phase - Generator/Motor wiring confusion

Hi Guys,

Recently watched a Youtube video where the uploader made their own generator using an old washing machine motor.

Treating the macine as a motor (Washing Machine):
My confusion began when the wiring diagram was shown (see figure 1 below). Looking at how it is terminated (circled in red) to me it appears as a Wye-type configuration. If a washing machine is powered by a single phase in a home - How is this single phase converted and applied to this 3-phase load?
Figure 1:

Treating the machine as a generator:
Out of curiosity, if I remove 2 of the phases and I lead the wire (shown as 'X') to a load and I connect the other end of that load to ground - Would that work?

Re-wired stator:
I know that the amount of magnets has an effect on the frequency and torque, but how will the following configuration affect the output?

Washing machines with three phase motors have an electronics module that does the conversion from single phase and manages the speed, direction.

To generate, better leave it as three-phase and rectify its 3 windings outputs

If you need a motor controller module, perhaps I have one behind the spiders webs.
