277 v lights on 220 volt curcuit will it work?

I bought some 277 volt lights. i thought i could run them on 220. just thought i would ask some other elec. inclined people. thanks for the replys.

Depends what type of lamp and fixture they are. 277 Volt flourescent probably won't start; Don't leave them connected if they don't start; their balasts will need around 260v to initiate, and they can be damaged by trying to start.

Halogen or other incandescents will work but will be dim.

I don't know about High pressure sodium and others.
