Hi new to forum and everything..
I have been tinkering with picaxe and this runs on 4.5 volt
In the same box I have 24v (22.2v) battery supply from 6x 18650 batteries to run relays and 24v prox sensors.
I don’t really want separate batteries for pic axe.
I need a circuit to reduce the 20 to 24v to run the pic axe and not fluctuate on input
Would like up to 1 amp
A drawing and parts would help a lot.
As only basic understanding. Thanks in advance

Do you have a car cigarette socket phone charger or similar?
Some of those can run on 24V as well as 12V. That could be a start. You can often find them at garage sales and OpShops.
But an Ebay buck converter for less that $1 is really pretty hard to beat.

hi,
Dropping from 24V to say 5V at 1Amp, using a linear voltage regulator would be very inefficient also it would mean dissipating ~19Watts!.
So a switching regulator would be the way to go.
I would recommend that you reconsider a ready built module, it would be cheaper and quicker to get into operation

Just one month ago I took one of those phone chargers apart. The kind that plug into the cigarette power outlet. Modified the reference voltage to drop the 5 volts output to give me 3 volts. Works like a champ. Didn't have to buy anything. Just used junk I have been accumulating.

To be honest, I think Dendad has the best advice. Yes, you don't want to buy. But I just don't see anything being easier. And fully adjustable (some of them are). You could dial in the exact voltage you want. And the amperage is there too.

If you can tap into the battery pack at the first cell from the negative that should give you around 4 + volts and with a bit of filtering that should be fine. Hopefully you have a meter to verify the voltage. That is the simplest and most efficient way to get the voltage that you asked for.
