Hi all
my problem is I have a number of 24 volt power supplies of appropriate power, but need a 12volt supply
My question is, what is the easiest and safest way to achieve this.

 

Answer would depend on the current requirements. In the mA range, easier to do than 50A range...

 

What is the nature of the supplies?
Linear? SMPS?
Regulated or unregulated?
Power?
Max.

 

1amp regulated designed to run a ultrasonic mister, I need 500 ma to run a water pump

 

1.5 amps, means 18 watts dissipated in a linear regulator.

Clearly, this calls for a SMPS buck regulator.

 

Are your 24V supplies Linear or switchmode?, if they are switched mode type they can be modified to lower voltages.

 

Also even linear, if using a dual winding secondary.

I've seen very cheap DC-DC pcb's for sale on eBay - it's a bit of a cheat rather then doing it yourself and it could take weeks to arrive but ..... it's an option.
