Hello All
First of all I am reverently asking for some help with a 3phase Rooftop HVAC unit.
208-230v 60hz That continues to burn, pit, scorch the 3ph Compressor Contactor tips/contacts like Clock Work if left unattended monthly. This location in town has been known for many years as unstable, outages at times and does have a Wild Leg landed in the L-2 location. Compressor is rated at 43amps and it runs around 39-40amp on the last check.
The Power Company will not respond to the problem and for years theyve known about it. I was an apprentice 36 yrs ago and they knew then. I honestly believe that installing Snubbers across the each contactor phase ie L1- T1, L2-T2, L3-T3 just like right across the bridge of each phase could cleanup the Voltage Spikes or surges? I’ve read a lot on this topic and I’ve used Snubbers on Contactor and Relay coils for Transient voltage. But I’m not really sure if this would be a possibility? a Practical application ? Physically fit in the unit control panel (if it would be a very large apparatus?) and also what all Electrical material would I need and a field connection diagram?
If I’m in the Wrong forum or pg? I apologize for being so needy. And I need to move on to another source I will no problem. I’m a Hvac Service Technician/Mgr with 36 yrs experience and involved with a lot of different electrical work and power sources in those yrs miliamps to 41603ph but I’m no where near a Electrical Engineer or guru. I would appreciate any guidance that you could give me please.
ps I do not have oscilloscope or anything like that. We have good Fluke Multi meters and Megometers and that’s all the information I know I can bring to you.
thanks again
