American Astronomical Society warns of counterfeit and fake eclipse glasses.
Some counterfeit glasses may still be proper solar filters. AAS has posted simple instructions for testing the filters.

The first one is a counterfeit. The second is genuine.
Notice that the genuine solar glasses made by American Paper Optics gives full address.
The counterfeit filters look black. The genuine ones are more reflective.

 

Good advice for viewing solar eclipse.


If you want to look at the solar eclipse through a telescope or binoculars, wear an eyepatch over one eye.
This way you will still have one good eye afterwards.

 

 

 

Getting busy up my way. Cleveland is hosting the Final Four in NCAA Womans Basketball and the Cleveland Guardians (formerly Cleveland Indians) will be hosting their home opener. Now just add a total eclipse and we have a population explosion resulting in a traffic explosion. My two sisters are making the ride up from Columbus, Ohio to join us for the auspicious occasion. I told them to get on the road early. Beautiful today but rain on the way tonight, it should move east midday tomorrow making for good viewing of the eclipse.

I am here in Dallas. Despite some cloud cover, there was a momentary break precisely at the point of totality.
I have watched many eclipses on videos, but it is one of those things which one has to really experience it personally.

 

I was on the phone talking to my 90yo mom who saw one for the first time from the house in Dallas,Tx. Yes, she was amazed.
