12v dc 1000ma vs 2000ma power adaptor

The capacity of the PS needs to be adequate. In other words, a 12V 1A supply that supplies power to a camera that draws 1/2 amp is the same as a 12V 100A power supply. The camera will draw only the current it needs.

As for finding power supplies, I like to visit my local Xfinity store and ask them if they have any used power supplies that people return when upgrading their routers. They're typically 1 to 2A, and they usually give them to you (me) for free. There are other sources elsewhere.

I have some old satellite units with their own built in supplies. I could scavenge one of those supplies for a project; and some are 100 to 240VAC inputs so wherever you are - not a problem. An old computer with an ATX supply can be hacked easily into a bench top supply. One I'm using occasionally has the following outputs:
+12V @ 28A
-12V @ 600mA
+5V @ 32A
-5V @ 600mA
+5VSB @ 2A
+3.3V @ 20A

Between those voltages and amperages I find it quite useful. For times I need something other than those particular voltages I use an old "School Electronics Lab" supply that runs on 120VAC input, Ferroresonant Isolation transformer, Auto-Transformer (variable transformer), full wave bridge rectifier and Cap and Coil filter. I can get zero to 185VDC. OK, you don't have access to one of those. You're just looking for a power supply for your cameras, one with sufficient ability to drive four IR LED Night Vision cameras. 1 amp has been sufficient in the past; a 2 amp supply will do a better job. IF the IR LED's have been on the dim side, the larger supply will allow them to operate at their designed brightness. They WON'T draw more current than they need.

You've said your cameras ran on a 1A supply. A 2A supply is easily gotten from any of your local internet provider (IP) outlet stores. I use Xfinity so I go there. But I'm sure just about all IP's would give you a used supply. They certainly don't want to reuse them because they can get into trouble for selling used equipment as new. They usually end up in the land fill. Why not stock your workbench with some supplies for free.

Here's one I got for free that is rated for 3A

Obviously there is nothing open at the moment. I was looking at amazon but didn't want a dodgy Chinese one. Any known good brands?
Otherwise I have seen 1 on coditech. Swann adaptor 2a £16

Making an assumption here, but you must be across the pond? (not in US). Had a look at your profile and you don't give indication where you are. Not your physical address, just "Live in Bosnia" or wherever. Helps us know better how to serve your needs. IF on the Asian continent then it may be hard to find an Xfinity store. But I'm sure you have some sort of internet provider store nearby. And tomorrow is always the next day.

I didn't even realise this was a us site. I'm based in the UK.
I don't know where this site is based, but it's not a "US" site. Many users are from the UK. We also hear from Australia and from countries in Africa. I suspect we have users from every location around the globe. I'm from Utah (United States). Others in the continental US and as far as my experience goes, from the UK - tend to communicate here and in PM's. One user happens to live south of me by about 50 miles. So far we haven't met. But the virus has even close travel locked down. That is to say - we choose to remain sequestered in our homes because some of us are of the older variety; and the virus presents a heightened threat.
