I need a 12DC-to-10AC/5AC inverter. This is for a project, so I don't actually need 10AC/5AC to power anything.

Is there an IC I can use? My professor doesn't allow me to buy devices like power inverters one use to charge a laptop in a car. My attempt was to use that to generate 110 AC and step it down using a 10-to-1/20-to-1 transformer (So the result is roughly 10AC and 5AC) .
what else can I do if 'using devices' isn't allowed? Is there an IC that can do inversion?

What do you mean by "AC"? I mean, is a square wave OK, or how close to a sine wave do you need to get? Do you mean 60Hz?

Yes, a pure sine wave and ~60 Hz

 

Define "pure". What percent error is allowed. Don't say zero.
Is there a minimum current specification?
What other limitations are there that we don't know about? Personally, I'd use a frequency generator app on my iPhone. Done.
