Power supply design for 6volts and 20watts for halogen lamp

Hello,

The voltage your transformer is supplying is to high.
You will have to make a regulation circuit to bring it back to the required 6 Volts.
For 20 Watts the regulator must be able to handle 20 Watts / 6 Volts = 3.4 Ampere (rounded up).

Run it off a 9-0-9 3A transformer... A 9-0-9 will give near to 14v and wont need a regulator... 12-0-12 will give 18v which can be regulated to 12
