Hi guys, i need some help with this little project, iv made this little circuit that iv found but its not working. when i turn it on i only get 1 mouse click

i could be reading it wrong, im not sure what to do at pin 4 and what does DTS-3 mean?

Is there a better way i could do this?

Thanks
Chris

Pin 4 of the 555 timer must be connected to +5V.

Note that pin 2 must also be connected to pin 6.

DTS-3 is the part number of the switch. You can use any switch that you wish.

R2 could be increased to 10k, R1 to 75k, and C1 changed to a 0.47uF cap. You'd wind up with about the same frequency, but you can use physically smaller components, and the power utilization will be far less.

It's a little unconventional, but OP is showing pin 2 and pin 6 connected. I agree the root problem is pin 4 is not taken to Vcc.

Thanks so much guys, works a treat!!!!!!!!! now if i reduce the resistance of r1 and r2 will that increase the pules speed?

Yes, but too fast and you leave the computer behind. My recommendation is to get the sucker working, then try to improve on it.

Put a variable instead of the 10KΩ for R1 (and maybe add a 200Ω in series with it to prevent 0 ohms).

I would prefer using a much smaller capacitor rather than reducing the resistance.

Decreasing the resistance will increase current consumption. Decreasing the capacitor will simply decrease the amount of time it takes to charge the capacitor, thus increasing the frequency of the output.
