I got a free blower fan from a scrap yard for a furnace project, to blow air into the burning wood or coal to make it hotter, but i cant get it to start. It is 240v AC, brown for positive, blue for negative, yellow for ground. but also in a separate wire, it has a white, yellow, blue and red wire, smaller than the other mains wires. id like some help to get it working, i cant figure it out all i know is the mains wires, not the others. Here are some images. main (1).JPG main (2).JPG main (3).JPG

Measure the winding resistances, there should be a high and low winding, the high resistance one requires a start cap in series.
Is there plate details/info on the motor?

I have some new images of circuitry and the motor bits. The circuit seems to have 3 68 uf capacitors on their already, the black circle, which is basically the motor has three pins sticking out which mark W, V, U. Not sure what that means, but they get put into the circuit.64F8F05F-899B-44F1-A7F3-B50937F46F18.jpegAC839B38-44DD-447C-9F66-A9026FC70143.jpeg 92AA15DE-3C0C-4E0A-8393-74D46D5363CB.jpeg 0C54D41A-921C-45D6-B235-8AA864DE3670.jpeg 64F5FFAF-A3A5-40FA-952A-DDC39CBA8935.jpeg 4E0756C0-33B6-4A6A-AA7E-2C3CE4CAB2BC.jpeg CAB10855-FEDA-44FE-85A7-A23018511020.jpeg

You have a ECM 3ph (Electronically Commutated motor) common now in HVAC units.
So far i have not come across any reverse engineering of them, I have been trying to get hold of a defective motor to see if it is possible.
No doubt why it was in the scrap yard.

What do you mean no doubt it was in the scrap yard? Is it possible to get working, it has those caps in that you apparently need to start these types :)

This is not a cap start motor that is/was traditionally used in these fans, they are known as ECM motors and are 3ph BLDC motors.
The caps in this case is part of the DC supply for the electronics.

What is odd about that?
That is just the supply in, the DC could be produced by a SMPS circuit that produces some other level of DC for the switching circuit.

As I said, the information on the electronic-BLDC drive is virtually non-existent, as far as I have been able to tell, so unless you can find someone who has reverse engineered it, you may be out of luck.
