I'd call it a toss-up between the Self-Tipping Hat and Sexless Oysters. Who could live without either?

 

I have a hard time deciding between the "clapper" light switch and chia pets.

One of my great grandfathers invented the razor strop. A generation of miscreant youth undoubtedly thank him for that.

Nikola Tesla's AC power distribution system, motors and generators. Truly changed the world, and hasn't changed a whole lot since. Definitely something to take pride in.

 

and more seriously, the US Constitution.

I thought governmental constitutions were invented by the Brits. Didn't they come up with that Magna Carta thingie? Either way, it is a nice invention!

 

The Magna Carta is a great invention. I made a special trip to Salisbury several years ago just to see its copy (I was already in England). Clearly, the fundamental concepts in it influenced the US Constitution, but our Constitution is still unique in the protections it gives.

I left out popcorn -- another great invention from our part of the world.

There are too many to name from the UK, but I'd say the Internal Combustion and jet engines.

 

I think the Babylonians beat us all out - they invented BEER.

 

Beer has been around as long as God has been. There is no culture it seems that didn't have beer. The Chinese has it long before the Babylonians.

Or to paraphrase Einstein, God gave us beer and sausage.
