Has anyone seen something called XMOS concept: http://www.electronicsweekly.com/Articles/2008/07/28/44205/xmos-design-kit-available.htm (there is quite a lot of other commentary in the electronics press at the moment).

Sounds interesting as a rapid OEM development concept particularly with support for the major interface protocols, but to me it seems like a faster but more restricted FPGA-esque idea. Also tied to a particular company so are we looking at potential vendor lock-in as we see in the software industry?

Is this software concept applicable to the hardware world?

Hello,

Xmos seems to be a company name.
They use the name also for the components and software.

There are even some PDF's for download.

That's the company bertus.

I'm curious to vet comments on what people think of the OEM software concept as applied to hardware. If you note the XMOS company statements, they are keen to emphasise their credentials above the custom FPGA and ASIC methods.

This model has been controversial in the software industry, how could it pan out in the hardware industry?
