Hello, I just need your opinion on this matter.

I was thinking in the last period on writing 250~300-page book on

Interactive 3D Visualization & Simulation
___________________

it is all about how to make electronics control 3D software

or make 3D software control electronics

one of my projects was making a password protected 3D locker, with user names and databases etc etc for controlling a pump, here it is a small stepper-motor.

what do the project do?

it allows you to control the stepper motor with 3D buttons rather than real ones on the breadboard, this illustrates a basic setup, one of the possibilities would be connecting the same hardware to a racing game, the game 3D vehicle would send the velocity signal to the hardware and make the motor velocity controlled according to the 3D Vehicle.
there were some added things like a password for the locker, and other things.
___________________

for sure many things will be covered, like how to make a Robotic arm, and how to make sophisticated physics and visualization.

also it will cover Arduino basics and how to make it communicate with the software we build.

do you think a book like this will be useful?
if the book is well written, do you think people will be interested in picking it?
do you think it will even sell?

I never seen a lot of books cover this field, so this might be a good opportunity, we can include topics like making realtime 3D car with data acquisition & physics & etc etc...

I need a co-author to help in writing this book.

for contact:
3denator at Gmail dot com

PS:

I do study Mechatronics engineering
also do 3D animations for TV channels

also do 3D games,...

it is a pleasure to meet you friends, I have always learned a lot from you all.

_________
Q: 3D buttons, why would that be special?
no, it can be made a software like this, and save materials of pipes to find bending constant.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEFmCLWxq2E

or even control Robotic arm in realtime.

Q: we don't understand, what do you want to do?

1-I want to write a book
2- the book will be about how to program any 3D software [executable files not images nor videos], and how to make that software you built, control Electronics, so you want to control a robotic arm?, you no longer need to do it by a pendant, and no need to make it solve IK relations, you send the computated visualized data from you 3D Robotics Software to the hardware

Q:if I knew how to program well, I would already know about all of what you would cover!

this book makes it easier, you do Logic bricks for most of the time and a bit of programming, and Physics engine is easy to use.

Q: I personally don't think it will be such of a big success, specially if the person want to commercialize the thing after.
you will be using an opensource software that allow you to make commercial use of your exe.

Q: any video to clearify the whole idea?

Have you checked out "Processing" and using it with the Arduino?

And yes I'd love to see a well written book with lots of real world examples (and the code) to do stuff like create simply VB applications that would allow you to create virtual buttons for use with the arduino, etc...
I'm into fishtanks/reef setups and would love to be able to create some VB programs to automate the turning on of lights pumps/dimmable LED fixtures,etc...

no, to be honest, because I think processing does almost nothing compared to opengl.

nice, ok...

sure, but python, not vb =]

not a lot of people seem to be interested in this thread.
But, those that are interested think it's an excellent idea. That's probably what should be expected. The subject of the book will be very specialized; so, those that have a need and an interest will think it's great. Those that don't care about the subject will not be very interested at all.

I think this is a general problem with technical books. Even those that address a topic with broader scope than yours are relatively specialized and appeal to a relatively small audience. Hence, I think books of this type should be written for personal enjoyment and satisfaction. Then, if it's a big hit, ... great. If not, ... well at least you enjoyed it, learned something and provided something useful to a small like-minded audience.

steveb, thanks

can you clearify?
why this category of people would be related to my topic?
I have the impression you are writing a "How To" book, and was wondering if you were going to include sections on how to ensure the software and displays are inclusive for people with vision impairments.
