What percentage you say that this NAND likely broken and need replacement? seems it is melted from the outside at least.

tl;dr section:
I got a 5 xboxes lot, and was trying to fix one of them.

I noticed on this board the NAND chip has some kind of "wrinkle", melted perhaps? have you ever seen this kind of problem? could such IC still work with such visible defect?

the xbox now shows the opening screen, but immediately goes either e71 error or totally shut down. I didn't test well though, I haven't put thermal paste under heat sinks, or fastened them with screws so it might be overheating quickly and it makes the system shutdown.

 

All that looks like in your photo is a trail of glue or something similar laying on the device, can you try picking it off with a pin or blade to see if it really is coming out of the device? Or can you get a better photo?

 

I also met the same problems, I before that can also be used.

I thought of that as just glue, will check, but what about the wrinkle/bump in the middle of the chip, you can look at number 8 and the shadow and notice the depth and how it is malformed.

I have found high resolution pictures make excellent inspection tools, better than a magnifier.

I was baffled by that, too. I was looking for a quad NAND chip. I did check the number, and it is a NAND-based FLASH chip. It would have been better to call it a Flash chip, a ROM chip, a memory chip, a RAM chip -- pretty much anything but just a NAND chip.
