What is the reason the the guy in this video, is using a bridge rectifier? ?
Because as noted, all the motors he is demo-ing are DC brushed style.
Treadmill motors etc.
He is using a bridge rectifier after the dimmer, in order to get regulated DC.

thanks inwo and Max. I have a 50v 25amp rectifier. Would that be acceptable to use for a 2.5hp dc motor rated @130v 18amps? or do I need to order one with higher peak reverse votalge?

So the 50amp 1000v bridge rectifier i just found online will be more than enough for my situation? It is only $5, so its not gonna break the bank.

So apparently I might be needing a better control switch. I hooked everything up and it seemed to be working right. The motor didn't turn on until I turned on the light dimmer switch(600w, 120v). When i did this, the motor came on at quite a quick pace and their was a short in the dimmer control switch( a couple sparks shooting out), and obviously, no more complete circuit. Would I be best to find a fan controller switch and one possibly rated higher than 120v?

After some research it looks as if that is the correct diagram.

Black not connected.

Seems it could be drawn in a way the black wasn't pointing at "line".

Correct. I have switched to a 130v 18amp dc motor and using in conjunction with a 1000v 50amp bridge rectifier.
