Right, if you can hear any reflected sound, then not all of it is being captured, let alone converted. Same problem as light reflecting off a solar panel.
I got to thinking about anechoic chambers as being a way to capture sound waves. But I think they would convert all the sound energy to heat, and there wouldn't enough of that to hardly detect, let alone convert.
