wide frequency antennas

Hello Forum,

does anyone know how wideband antennas work? I know that a traditional wire antenna is optimally resonant, due to its physical size, to a specific frequency (or narrow band)...

Wideband antennas work well over a large bandwidth, due to their geometry....
I tried to understand the Rumsey principle behind them but I did not get the main idea: if an antenna geometry is describable only based on angle variables, then it becomes frequency independent....
Spiral antennas are an example....

What exactly happens in the antenna when waves of different frequency hit it?
Does it have to do with the antenna impedance?

thanks!!!!
