I'm currently building a project for an electronics class, I need a 5 Volt solenoid that is to run off of a TTL PLC board.

Where can I find a 5volt linear solenoid for a reasonable cost and where can I find one with as long as a shaft as possible?

Thanks...

Solenoids are getting to be hard to find, particularly for low voltages.

What is it that you are attempting to accomplish?

How long of a stroke do you need?

Pushing or pulling?

"Ding-dong" doorbells from the 50's through the late 70's had a pair of 24VAC solenoids in them; a single "ding" for the rear door, and dual-tone for the front. They had a fairly long throw. You could use a relay to switch power to the solenoid. A 24vac solenoid will operate on 17v-18v DC.

Appreciate it guys, I ended up with a 24 VDC solenoid. This is to actuate a starting gate for a pinewood derby racetrack.
