What's the use of Dual Common Drain N-Channel MOSFETs?

I have been seeing them in a significant number of power paths recently.
Some are used as an integrated package, such as this one, while others use two separate MOSFETs connected in the same configuration.

However, I am not able to figure out any significance of using two MOSFETs (and increasing the cost and the board space required) when the same can be achieved through a single MOSFET!


Any insights into this are greatly appreciated.

I think the most common application / example is for battery protection.. it works as a switch but prevents power going in either direction. A single fet would, for example stop you taking power out of a battery, but the source drain, body diode would still let you put power into the battery and charge it.
