im looking to replace a part that caught fire but it has no numbers or markings on it. i need to know what it is so i can replace it. but i cant find the board markings in any of my books or online.

 

Radio Shack as all kinds. I picked up a couple yesterday, just in case.

i have been there the only thing that kid knew was cell phone planes and batteries. if i knew what the part was maybe i could find it online. kinda looks like an inductor but the symbol on the board is nothing i have seen before.

 

It looks like a common mode choke. There is probably a shorted MOV right behind it that made it burn.

Samsung S4 and iPhone 5s take great close up photos (great photos of any format).

 

ok i researched common mode chokes and line filters thay would both make sense. there are MOV's right behind it then a bridge rectifier. is there a easy way to determine what the values/specs of that part should be by the MOV's that are behind it?

 

check the bridge rectifyer too, if anything got through the filter hot enough to fry the mov's, it might be shorted.
