I couldn't help but think, but what are today's goals in Satellite development? I could name a few off the top of my head.

* Pickup higher res images at a much higher distance. I think we hit the max already.

* Ability to send/receive information from greater distance as well.

Those are some of the basics of what I had thought of. I'm sure making them intelligent, to be able to navigate out into space and back is somewhere in there, but are they doing anything else or trying to achieve something that I clearly don't know about?

As far as todays technology is concerned I think we have reached the upper limit, if this is true I do not know. Last time I checked was replacing the Hubble Space Telescope.
