Depending on the situation, location, and type of equipment it is sometimes desirable to intentionally add resistance or reactance or both into the neutral of a generator. This limits the amount of fault current available during a ground fault. It can also provide a means to monitor and warn of a load imbalance before it gets to an intolerable (or unsafe) level.
It would be best to consult the manufacturer of your gen to determine if your installation needs such equipment.
