I am wanting to automate a halloween prop for my brother. right now people step into the booth and say "bloody mary" 3 times and then someone turns on the light behind a two way mirror.

what I want to do it create a series of voice activated switches to turn the light on. What i think needs to happen is that when they say it the first time it closes the first switch, then the second time the second one, then the third completes the connection and turns on the light.

is there any easy way to just hook them up in series?

Are the switches 'momentary' (that is, they switch on and then turn themselves off) or 'latching' (where you have to turn them off with a button or by disconnecting power)?

 

I guess that is a good question, I dont have any switches yet, can I get some that stay on and have to reset or stay on for a period of time and then reset on their own?

Yeah, latching switches would do the job with a minimum of components. Just wire them in series.
