good point - nice job.

remember to keep enough voltage headroom (eg - dont try to regulate 25 V to 24V) to keep the device happy - this parameter is usually given in the datasheet for the device.

if you do a simple resistor divider you can take the 18V down to 9V and dissipate substantially less power.

these resistors may be exposed to a lot of current, so remember to check how much the device will draw, and rate the resistors accordingly.
