Use LED to trigger relay?

You would need a circuit which could distinguish between LEDs on continuously and LEDs blinking. Doable, but not as simple as you'd probably like.
I've been using this setup for literally years and the LEDs have never blinked. Not once.

The other option would be to make (or find?) a voltage sensing circuit which would trigger the relay, or buy another voltage-sensing relay and install that :-\

I think I found a better solution. There's a knock-off VSR on AliExpress for $23. I'll have to wire in another switch and it isn't adjustable, but it's probably my best solution.

I'll monitor the thread for another day before ordering, in case anyone has any brilliant ideas :)

I did this on my SUV awhile ago and it worked fine, never had any problem.

While charging is on, adjust the pot till the LED is lit.
