So I want to learn more about TV remote controllers, but my Google searching hasn't been that successful. I basically want to learn everything, especially how to add new functions from a design POV. Like if I wanted to design a circuit that adds a new button to the remote, how I would also have to translate that to the IR transmitter and etc.

Also, I found a java website that lets me test circuit builds, but it's pretty weak, are there any good ones or free software?
