Hello there everybody!!

I was thinking whether a Li-ion charger can be used to charge Nimh batteries.
I have a li-ion charger(3.6v) which came with the Cannon Digital camera. It turns red while charging and green when fully charged. What if I use the LM317 to get 1.6v constant current for my 1 NIMH battery?? Will it work? By the way, why does a Li-ion battery has 3 poles-one for negative, one for positive and one for earth?? If I use a NIMH will I connect earth to Negative??

NO. The batteries are not compatible.

 

The 3rd prong in Li-ion chargers is most likely for control, ie BMS.
