Treadmill "fix"

My treadmill doesn't work. I damaged it... Now if I plug it in the belt runs slowly. The pedestal isn't electrically connected because connecting it nothing works. It's an old treadmill. I was thinking since the motor works wouldn't it be possible to rig simple wiring and gadget to adjust power to it so that I can control its speed. It's a 1.5 HP DC motor. I noticed it has one wire connection directly from the electrical outlet.

You need a variable speed drive (VSD) for your 1.5HP DC motor. With more details about the motor, maybe even a picture if you can't find other specifications, folks here can make recommendations. Impossible without more info.
