Hi there everybody. I was wondering if I could get some help. I'm looking to add a transistor to my project to switch a 12 volt circumstances on and off using a low voltage trigger. Could somebody help me pick the right size transistor or direct where to find out more about wiring the circuit correctly.

About how many volts is the low voltage trigger?

I'm looking to switch a pneumatic selonoid (12v), using an arduino(5v). I've tried some transistors (2n 4401). But I've fried a couple of them. I've seen a few videos on YouTube,but after following them step by step still no dice. I'm looking to learn a bit more about them to get the proper size, to build a circuit correctly.

And, do you have a suppression diode across the relay coil?

But that doesn't tell me what the solenoid requires. What's the solenoid coil resistance?
