I am using a TI micro for the first time and have been struggling to get comms with it via a XDS100V3 JTAG emulator.
The micro in question is the TMS320F28379D

I am using an SMT to through hole adapter board just for prototyping but want to understand some fundamentals with this micro.

Firstly what is the minimum I need connected in order to get JTAG comms. I assume I need to supply the VDD3VFL and VDD.
Do i need to supply the VDDIO at all?
I have also installed a pull up on the XRS pin to 3.3V

I have made the JTAG connection as shown on the attachment however get an error that the scan paths cannot circulate bits.

 

You probably need the VDDIO as well - it doesn`t really hurt to try.

One aspect that used to cause trouble depending on the emulator is the TRST resistor. Increase the resistor on TRST from 2.2k to 4.7k or 10k.

turns out it was that I wasn’t using the capacitors on the VDD lines.
I seem to be able to flash the device now with no problems.
