Please let me know what is the best method of testing transformers with shorted turns.

What type of T/Fs mains 50/60 cycle or Higher freq SMPS type?

 

for both .... i just need to know this for my knowledge

 

For mains T/F I just conect to the power with secondary disconected & check current draw, if excessive will have shorted turns & over heat. SMPS T/Fs i use a home built tester that suplys a HF sine wave to T/F, & meter. If there is shorted turns the meter needle will drop. This little unit has served me well for nearly 30Yrs, checking SMPS & TV flyback T/Fs.

It should be ok as it does the same job just a little diferently.

 

Can this tester use to check inductor coils ?
