I was surprised to see that my P5205 probe is broken and giving me a distorted waveform. I paid $1500 for it a few years ago from Tektronix. A new one costs about $1200. Tektronix wants $1100 to repair it, and I haven't even sent it to them yet.

Anyone know a good alternative for repairs? I might have to attempt to do it myself but i'm short on time at the moment.

What kind of distortion? Can you post a picture of the actual signal and the signal through the probe?

 

Violet is accurate, Green is the distorted waveform. I have 3 of these probes and 2 are working correctly.

I tried opening the bad probe and its seemingly impossible without breaking something. I don't think I'll ever be buying from Tektronix again.

 

Found something, disconnecting the Red lead does not affect the waveform at all, so it seems like there is a broken trace or bad fuse inside the probe for that lead. However I can't seem to open the damn thing.
