synchronous motor cross reference

I do not have the make of a small gear reduction motor on our laboratory apparatus BOD machine. i have all the particulars of the amps (2.2) of this small ac motor that had 172 rpm. However I do not have the maker of this motor. Our manufacturer wants $750 for this motor that I have seen similiar (not exact) motors from hurst for $120. Is there a cross reference for motors somewhere? Thanks for your time.
