Normal SPST and DPST switches work for 2 devices. I need to switch 55 devices.
I was thinking of a simple numeric display, a control where I could choose between 1-55 and then an actual switch circuit that switches that number.

Just not sure how to start - the switch would probably be an IC as it need to have at least 55 channels to switch between.

 

Saw this article using toggles and flip flops for an electronic switch, now I guess I would need to add a display, numeric keypad and 55 channels to this device.

You have really said nothing other than you have 55 devices to switch.

Do you need to be able to control those devices individually?

One at a time? Blocks of them? If in blocks, how many?

What voltage and current do the switches need?

You need to explain more fully what you intend to do.
