Switch Circuit

Hi everyone.
I need a circuit so that a toggle switch outputs a momentary signal, to use in flight simulation.

I found this circuit on a flightsim website.

Could anybody tell me if this optocoupler would work with this circuit please. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2228&DOY=19m10

He mentions in the article, that if you can not get an AC type, then you need to insert a diode in front of the coupler.

If it helps, here is the original article.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It will work, the extra diode is needed to discharge the capacitor quickly and to protect the optocoupler diode.

Thanks for that, I really appreciate the help.
While my mind (such as it is) is on it, would the same circuit work with 5 volts?
I would like to power several of them with the power from a USB lead.
Would the extra diode need to be anything specific or just a kind of general diode?

Thanks again.

Colaboy.
